How to care for an Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy)

Watering Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy)

Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy) likes even moisture, without the potting soil being soaking wet. Water about once a week and, to be sure, check the top inch of soil: if it's dry, you can top it up. During hot or dry spells, an extra misting can help maintain humidity. For tips on watering related plants, see our blog post on how to care for pothos plants .

Light requirements of Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy)

This dragon ivy thrives in a spot with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves and cause yellow patches, while too little light results in angular stems and less color. An east- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. If you're looking for other shade-loving plants, check out our selection of shade plants .

Is the Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy) poisonous?

Yes, like most aroids, this plant contains toxins that can cause irritation if ingested by children or pets. Therefore, keep it out of reach of curious pets and small children. For non-toxic plants that are safe for pets, take a look at our non-toxic houseplants .

Common problems with Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy)

Yellow leaves

Yellow leaves often indicate overwatering or a sudden temperature fluctuation. Check the soil moisture and adjust your watering frequency. Remove yellow leaves with clean shears to encourage new growth. For root rot identification and treatment, read this article: What to do about root rot .

Is my Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum (Dragon Ivy) dripping?

Dripping leaves are usually the result of guttation: the plant expels excess water through the leaf tips. This occurs primarily at night when humidity is high. It's not a sign of disease, but you can minimize it by slightly lowering the humidity or watering less.

Pests

Spider mites, thrips, or mealybugs can hide between the leaf veins. Inspect your dragon ivy weekly and, at the first sign of infestation, use a plant sprayer or place our sticky traps against fungus gnats in the pot. Switch to natural predators or contact us for advice using our contact information .

Carrots emerge from the bottom of the pot

When the roots emerge from the drainage holes at the bottom, your plant is pot-bound. Repot the dragon ivy in a slightly larger pot with fresh, airy potting soil. For example, use our potting soil for aroids to ensure healthy drainage.

Brown edges on the leaf margins

Brown edges are often caused by overly dry air or direct sunlight. Increase the humidity with a humidifier or by misting regularly. Our blog post , "5 tips for increasing humidity in your home," will help you get started.

Not worth it
Size: Mini
The orange clasp that locks it in place is super faulty on the one I received. It folds at any point when trying to throw the ball. Not sure if I just got a defective one but I wasn’t a fan. Would rather get one at a pet store just to play it safe

Not as sturdy as a regular one
Size: Mini
I was holding off writing a review about this because I wasn’t sure that it was going to hold up as well as a regular non bendable Chuck It wand. I have found I like the way it folds up and fits into my backpack nicely and also fits into my big purse when I’m out and about with my dog. You have to make sure the orange sleeve is over the screw part in the middle of the wand before you can throw the ball otherwise it’s not going to throw. It’s going to collapse. I’m not sure how long the durability is going to last that’s my only question about this product and I don’t know how long the screws on the elbow of it are gonna hold up but for now it’s been working great and we play with it every day and I’ve not had a problem with it. It’s just not as sturdy as a full size wand

Love this version of Chuck It beyond all before
Size: Mini
I had the longer bendable Chuck It before, well several, which broke down. They finally wouldn’t’ release the ball. Not disparaging Chuck It. They have been my furry puppy's favorite thing ever. I am grateful. But what I like and think is intuitive about this smaller design is 2 things: 1. I can do a more dynamic throw. 2. There are circle holes in the Chuck It Ball that come with it that I think allow for easier release and the ball can go father. Just my two cents.

Still Good to Use in a Pinch
Size: Mini
Love the Chuck it brand. This collapsible one is not my favorite. Everytime I chuck it, the orange lock does not stay in place. Plus, in my opinion, it doesn't have the oomph for the distance like the other medium ones. Still good though
